2015 – The Year of the Drug Execution

Following up after a bit of delay due to other life issues:

2015 is over, and it turns out to have been a year where 552 people were executed for drug related crimes – 41% of the total people executed.  Most of these were in Iran and Saudi Arabia.  But, Indonesia made waves with 16 executions in two batches in January and April, which included mostly foreigners, including two of the Bali Nine from Australia.

Drug Execution Rates

Earlier I’ve posted about the rate of executions for drug trafficking this year (and going a bit back into last year).  However, I’d not actually looked at the rate.  I just went and looked over the execution data at captialpunishmentuk.com for the first seven months of this year, and the rate is much higher than I’d have thought:

Follow Up – Approximate Timelines for Various Methods of Execution

Following up on the information from the video mentioned in Another Good Video, I’ve generated the following table of approximate times based on an execution scheduled for 6:00pm on May 12, 2015 – tomorrow evening as I write this.

Another Good Video

I just watched an old Discovery Channel on the last 24 hours on death row. I think it does a good job with the basics of the procedure. It will certainly inform some of my not for publication writing and fantasies.

Some of My Answers to My Own Survey

For some time, I’ve had a link to a survey on KwikSurveys.com.  It has been slowly getting answers – but there are nowhere near enough responses yet for me to want to summarize the results yet – even if I’ve privately noted some trends.  But, I thought I’d mention my personal selections and why I chose them.  Some of this will be a repeat, some will be new.

On bodily functions and execution

In my last post, I mentioned my apparently mistaken belief that it was almost inevitable that someone would urinate, and possibly defecate, during their execution.  Evidence shows that this isn’t the case, at least for hangings (two pictures out of the numerous from Kuwait and Iran).

The New Mexico Electric Chair

The New Mexico Electric Chair

First up, the New Mexico Electric Chair – used seven times.

New Mexico has the distinction of being one of three states to have used both an electric chair and a gas chamber to conduct executions.  This could be enough to make this a favorite, but I also like the leg cuffs.

More on Physical Sensations

Back when I wrote about “What it might feel like to be executed” I tried to imagine and describe the physical and emotional sensations.  But, I’m not sure I did as well with the physical as I’d have liked.

What it might feel like to be executed

Obviously, we don’t have any actual reports on what it feels like to be executed.  So, I’m going to use some imagination instead.  For these purposes, I’m going to assume the following:
